Koll Wetlands Canon 50mm f1.4 challenge

This week when we went to a local pond/wetland area where we usually get some fun bird photos we found a maze of trails going around the wetlands. It took us only two years of visits before we found these. Whoops!

Anyways, we went early one morning and I decided to not take the 100-400 lens and instead put my Canon 50mm f1.4 lens on with the idea of challenging myself to find different things to photograph. At first I was feeling pretty uninspired, but was plenty surprised when I finally noticed the sun shining through and creating some fun halos and outlines of the surrounding greenery. Here are three of my shots (with my still very limited editing skills).

Overall, I was really pleased with how these photos turned out. And being that I am only now really learning how to use Lightroom, I’m sure over time my edits will change. Next time I’m looking at taking the 70-200mm f2.8 Canon lens but who knows after how these turned out I may take the 50mm again.

Thanks for visiting!

Back to birding

This summer was pretty busy with a mixture of trips (I’ll try to upload some of our attempts at photography of both scenery and birds when I remember) and work. Then Labor Day came and went and we both finally have some more time to get back out to try and get some bird photos. We have been frequenting one of our favorite birding spots in our region - Ridgefield WMA. I also used this summer to get back into uploading my birds found on ebird as I have in the past (thank god for their app which makes it soooo much easier now). And here are just a few fun photos including one bird that supposedly was a rare find according to ebird.

Happy New Year! 2018!

We decided to start off the new year by heading to one of our favorite birding spots (Ridgefield WMA) in attempts to get some decent shots. Thankfully the weather and birds complied (as much as they do for photos)
